Past Events
LCF has hosted a variety of events since our founding in 2004. Funds raised as a result of these events, in addition to personal donations, are dispersed to the community through the grant request process. We are not supported by state or federal funding, and all of our revenue is generated by fundraising events and private donations.
Medical Symposium
Through a partnership with the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, high-quality continuing education seminars have been made available to physicians in the area. Topics have covered breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lung cancer. The speakers for these seminars have included top experts from M.D. Anderson, Sloan-Kettering, Duke University and more.
Public Education Forum
Through a partnership with Baptist Health, a series of education forums on various cancer topics have been offered free to the public. The series are held twice a year at various locations in central Kentucky. Each series begins with forty-five minutes of shopping with vendors and light refreshments followed by a panel discussion of experts. Topics have included Genetics and Cancer, Cancer and Nutrition, How to Pay for Cancer Care, and Intimacy and Cancer.
Hats & Handbags
Hats and Handbags for Life was a silent auction of new and gently worn hats and handbags from national and local designers. Designers included Badgley Mischka, Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo and hats from Christine Moore, Polly Singer, and Frank Olive, just to name a few. It was a perfect way for friends to get together for a night of fun, while supporting LCF’s mission in the fight against cancer.
Breeders’ Cup Champions for Charity
LCF was honored to be one of the charities of choice for the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Champions for Charity. Maker’s Mark and the Breeders’ Cup partnered to create a limited-edition, five-bottle collection featuring a few of the most legendary champions in Breeders’ Cup history.
Wine, Women & Shoes
In 2011 and 2012 LCF hosted Wine, Women & Shoes at Keeneland’s Keene Barn. A high-end shopping marketplace, it featured wine tasting and delectable food, offering a wonderful ‘girls night out.’ The first year LCF partnered with Badgley Mischka for a runway show straight out of New York, featuring their spring line. Mark Badgley and James Mischka worked with LCF for over a year to perfect the show and attend the 2011 event. In 2012, LCF partnered with SAK Fifth Avenue. SAKs created a mini store, bringing in top lines such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Etro, Christian Louboutin and much more. Their runway show was a success as well.
Roll for the Cure
Roll for the Cure Roll was held in downtown Lexington’s Triangle Park, with cyclists committing to ride 25, 50 or 100 miles throughout Kentucky’s gorgeous horse farm routes. The event also featured a 4-mile family fun ride and children’s activities. Hundreds of cyclists, many riding in honor of a loved one in the fight against cancer, registered and committed online to a minimum fundraising goal to benefit LCF. A majority of the cyclists exceeded the minimum fundraising goal which helped LCF raise over $85,000.
Costumes & Cocktails for a Cause
In 2017, LCF’s Pegasus Board held Costumes & Cocktails for a Cause, a highly successful fundraiser. The event was held at the Round Barn at the Red Mile, and days were spent creating the perfect spooky setting for the ultimate Halloween costume party. The event exceeded 200 guests, most dressed in creative costumes. Ghoulish cocktails and devilish hors d’oeuvres were served while guests danced the night away.
